Nigeria Police Arrest Officers Selling Guns To Robbers, Kidnappers

The Nigeria Police Force (Zone 9), headquartered in Umuahia, has arrested two corporals for selling revolver pistols to armed robbers, kidnappers and murderers. According to a Police wireless message (CB:3620/IMS/DFA/VOL.2/24) the arrested corporals are Mbara Udochukwu (Force No. 46255) and Glory Eke (Force No. 44269). Udochukwu is attached to Police Zone 9, Umuahia, while Eke is attached to Isiala Mbaino Division of Abia State. The wireless message also indicated the arrest of Jude Madu, an ex-corporal with Force No. 462551.

Madu was arrested on 9 September and found to be in possession of a phone belonging to Reverend Father Cyricus Onunkwo of Orlu Catholic Diocese, who was kidnapped on 1 September and found dead the next day.

According to the message, Madu admitted leading the six-man gang that kidnapped and subsequently killed the clergyman.
